If the proposed development goes ahead the challenge of gridlock in the one-way system can only get worse.
The layout of the roads and the volume of traffic are already a risk to cyclists and pedestrians, and especially dangerous for children going to and from school. The roads are frequently gridlocked by the volume of traffic with tailbacks to Fetcham, compounded when traffic is redirected through Leatherhead by incidents on the M25.
Increasingly roads in Leatherhead are closed to traffic by the police to allow lorries, too tall to pass under the bridges, be escorted safely through the town.
Other concerns include:
The access road to the development on Station Road.
Increase in traffic along Bridge Street/North Street to access the new car park.
Potential gridlock at pinch point on North Street.
Potential exit from development onto Randalls Road.
