What is proposed?

The Leret Partnership have officially submitted their plans for the development on Bull Hill and in the Red House Gardens park by Leatherhead railway station that will fundamentally alter our town.

This development is not just about a few new buildings - it’s about changing the character of Leatherhead forever. Tower blocks will irrevocably change the character of our small market town, not only aesthetically, but through the reduction of green spaces in the town. This is the last chance residents have to influence the plans for the heart of our town.

What are the issues?

We are not against new development in Leatherhead, but feel that any building needs to be in proportion and keeping with the current look and feel of Leatherhead. There are currently no high rise blocks in Central Leatherhead. 

The majority of the planned building, comprising 480 dwellings, commercial floorspace and multistorey car parking in buildings of between three and 12 storeys in height, will be on the Red House Gardens, a local park that is used by many people every day and is home to lots of wildlife and historical trees. 

There has been no mention of how these new buildings will affect the already struggling sewage and drainage systems, the removal of existing parking spaces and the impact on the traffic congestion around Bull Hill.

What are we doing?

Save Bull Hill has attended all consultations and the forum meeting since the residents’ petition was presented to Mole Valley District Council in October 2024. We have contributed wherever there has been an opportunity. But, from all the signs we’ve seen, Leatherhead residents have not been heard.

We have instructed a planning solicitor to review the planning application professionally. We're also looking to commission further independent expert reports to properly assess the impact of the proposed development. We're currently looking at a heritage and townscape report (£1,320), a hydrology report (£6,700), a light and vertical sky loss report (estimated cost £2,000 plus VAT) and a traffic and highways impact report.
